Alastair Cook

Alastair Cook, the ICC Test Player of the Year 2011, is one of the best openers in the game nowadays. At just age 27, he already has played 72 Test matches, scored almost 6000 runs and it averaging just under 50. In the test batting rankings, he currently holds the third spot and has been in the top 10 for a considerable amount of time in the recent past.

It will be a big challenge for Pakistan to get his wicket - the sooner they get his wicket, the better the chances for Pakistan to win.

It seems like more than often Cook has thrown his wicket trying to drive a ball outside off.  He too is more vulnerable to fast bowlers rather than spinners. In his last 24 innings, Cook has been dismissed by fast bowlers 22 times and just once by a spinner.

Stumped 1 4.347826087
Total 23 100

Majority of the times Cook has been caught by the WK or in slips or at point or gully while driving loosely the fast bowlers.

Cook has scored over 900 runs in 9 games in asia at a healthy average of 57.75. Even on the spinning surfaces in Srilanka, India and Bangladesh, Cook has been dismissed by spinners only 5 out of 16 times.  Thrice he has been out slog sweeping and once he failed to time his pull when playing on 173 vs Bangladesh in Chittagong.

Out of the 11 times Cook has been dismissed by the fast bowlers, he has been out to a left armer 7 times and 4 times to right arm fast bowlers. This shows his strength against quality spinners and weakness against the fast bowlers.  Faded Indian star bowler, Irfan Pathan got the better out of Cook twice in 2006 whereas Srilankan legend Chamida Vaas got him out twice as well in 2007.

HOW TO GET HIM OUT:

Plan A: Fast bowlers  bowl a good line around off stump and outside off stump to make  Cook poke at a ball and get caught behind.

Plan B: Fast bowlers bowl slightly full and outside off and hope that Cook drives loose and our felders catch the ball

Plan C: Frustrate Cook by not allowing him to score. Make him slog sweep Rahman or Ajmal.

We now move on to Jonathan Trott, the ICC Cricketer of the year 2011.
